Broken Highway Stalls Traffic for Eight Hours in Champaknagar

Agartala: A broken lorry brought traffic to a standstill for eight hours on Saturday at Champaknagar’s Jampui Choumuhani. Hundreds of commuters sat stranded in the heat as a massive tailback choked the under-construction Assam-Agartala National Highway, or NH08. Vehicles stretched for kilometres on both sides of the blockage.

Drivers and passengers fumed. They waited without updates while the highway remained completely impassable. Local residents and vehicle operators pointed to the dilapidated state of the road and the sluggish pace of four-lane construction as the primary cause for the gridlock.

One lorry driver spoke to reporters about the persistent cycle of delays. “This is not the first time. The highway work is moving at a snail’s pace, and every time heavy vehicles get stuck, thousands suffer.”

Commuters now demand urgent government intervention to fix the road and speed up the project. Frequent travelers describe the route as a nightmare. Experts warn that the transport link remains vulnerable. Unless construction accelerates and maintenance improves, this highway will continue to paralyze travel and ruin the days of thousands.
