Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha opened the Haora Riverfront Development Project in downtown Agartala on Tuesday. This project aims to clean up the area and build better public spaces. It spans 1,700 metres from Steel Bridge to Dashamighat. The total cost hit 96 crore rupees.
Saha also opened the newly finished Airport Road under the Agartala Smart City Mission. He laid the foundation for a new marriage hall. This building will serve low-income residents in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
The Chief Minister focused on historical ties during his speech. "The Haora River carries the heritage, civilisation and history of Agartala city. The Haora Riverfront Development Project has been developed with the objective of protecting the river and providing citizen-friendly facilities in the heart of the city," he said.
The site once hosted anti-social activity. Now it serves the public. The project includes maintenance for five years to keep things running. Officials designed the area for all ages. It aims to stop riverbank erosion and keep the banks sturdy.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder called the opening a historic day. He noted the city is working to cut traffic and pollution. City crews are patching roads to prepare for Durga Puja. A blood donation camp marked the start of the event. Officials like Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta and MLA Meena Rani Sarkar attended the ribbon-cutting alongside several department secretaries and mission leads.
