Assam Launches Massive Muga Silk Expansion in Boko

Guwahati: Assam kicked off a new Muga silkworm food plant drive at the Turkpara Muga Nursery in Boko on Friday. The state Department of Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture leads the effort under the Mission Senehjori banner. Minister Biswajit Daimary inaugurated the project to grow the state silk trade. The event drew Boko-Chaygaon MLA Raju Mesh, department brass, and representatives from the Directorate of Muga.

This work targets a stronger production ecosystem. It ensures rearers have enough food plants for their worms. Boko holds real promise for this industry. It supports many local families. The state is pumping an estimated 411 crore into the project to grow food resources and modernize the sector. It is a big bet on tradition.

Daimary spoke with local traders about current industry bottlenecks. He confirmed plans for a spinning mill to help stabilize market rates. "Preparations were underway to establish a Muga spinning mill in Assam, which is expected to help rearers secure better prices for their produce and create additional opportunities for traders." This infrastructure aims to put more cash in the pockets of local workers.
