Guwahati: The Community Health Centre in Boko, Assam, just scored a major upgrade. The Shipping Corporation of India Limited pumped Rs 47 lakh into the facility through a corporate social responsibility program. These new tools aim to fix gaps in surgical, maternity, dental, and diagnostic care for the region. The AVA Foundation handled the logistics to get the gear to the Kamrup district site.
The facility received an extensive haul of machinery. Staff now have access to a hydraulic operation theatre table, an anaesthesia workstation, two labour tables, four OT lights, and two patient monitors. The list continues with two six-channel ECG machines and a portable 100 mA mobile X-ray unit. Lab upgrades include a hematology analyser, a 300-litre vibration-free blood storage refrigerator, a thyroid profile testing machine, an electrolytes analyser, a fully automated biochemistry analyser, and two digital laboratory centrifuges. Rounding out the shipment are a dental chair, a portable dental X-ray, two infusion pumps, two bipolar diathermy units, and an RO water purifier.
Local officials gathered to mark the arrival of the equipment. Boko-Chaygaon MLA Raju Mech, Raben Deuri, and RHAC Chairman Sonaram Rabha attended the event. Other attendees included RHAC members Ramakanta Rabha and Arjun Chetry, AVA Foundation trustee Sonjit Kumar Saha, and Deputy Superintendent Dr Apurba Talukdar.
Dr Talukdar noted the importance of this infusion of technology during his welcome address. He confirmed the "18 items received under the initiative are valued at approximately Rs 47 lakh." The centre serves roughly two lakh residents, with over 60 per cent of those patients coming from tribal communities. Better equipment should stop patients from traveling far to find basic diagnostic services.
