Guwahati: Indian Oil Corporation’s Digboi Refinery started a new community health program on Wednesday. Executive Director Rahul Prashant flagged off two mobile medical units under the IndianOil Arogyam 2.0 initiative. The units serve 24 villages, with each vehicle covering 12 locations on a set schedule. Crews will hit two villages daily. These clinics offer primary screenings, treatment for common sicknesses, free medicine, and health counseling.
Chief General Manager N. Vinod joined senior officials, union reps, and staff for the rollout. The refinery labels the project as part of its broader commitment to education, sanitation, and community growth. They want to catch diseases early and boost medical access in isolated spots.
Meanwhile, a former senior official is pressuring management to fix the decaying Digboi Itabhata Hindu Cremation Ground. The site sits right next to the New Tank Farm. The critic claims the historical facility suffers from stagnant water, weeds, and dangerous mosquito breeding. He noted the current state of the grounds hurts local families. "The poor condition of the facility, along with inadequate infrastructure and a shortage of firewood, has made it difficult for families performing the last rites of their loved ones," the official said.
The advocate wants the refinery to adopt the cremation ground as a CSR project. He argues that better infrastructure and sanitation would restore the dignity of one of the town's oldest civic institutions.
