Assam Legislators Push for Arecanut Board and Healthcare Reforms

Guwahati: Assam legislators tackled public welfare concerns during the July 27 Budget Session. The assembly floor burned through a packed agenda. Proceedings opened with Question Hour, followed by a Calling Attention motion from MLA Bhupen Roy asking for direct intervention from the Chief Minister on urgent state matters.

MLA Zubair Anam Mazumder pushed the government to set up an Assam Arecanut Board. He wants institutional support for local growers to bolster the entire sector. Other members mirrored his focus on the agrarian economy. MLA Paniram Brahma demanded better support systems for the state's farmers.

Infrastructure took center stage as well. MLA Sanjoy Kishan grilled the administration on road construction projects under the Public Works Department. Legislators also utilized Rule 301 to bring specific regional grievances to the floor. The session shifted gears toward medical care later that afternoon.

MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar pushed a discussion under Rule 50 regarding treatment for serious illnesses. He stated the debate focused on "strengthening Assam's healthcare infrastructure and ensuring better access to specialised treatment for patients across the state." Lawmakers remain locked on governance and public welfare as the session moves forward.
