Bir Lachit Sena Protests Alleged Medical Negligence at Boko Health Centre

Guwahati: Members of the Bir Lachit Sena Boko regional committee descended on the Boko Block Primary Health Centre on Wednesday. They claim the facility is rife with corruption and medical negligence. The group wants Rs 10 lakh for the family of Santona Boro. Boro was pregnant when she died on October 3.

Boloram Das, the committee president, insists the facility failed the woman. He says the family was never given the necessary medical records. "Medical negligence led to Boro's death," Das stated during the protest. The organization has vowed to pay all future expenses for the surviving child. They are now pressing Health Minister Ashok Singhal to visit the family and launch a formal probe.

Dr. Apurba Talukdar, deputy superintendent of the health centre, defended the staff. He noted that Boro was sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital as her health failed. She died while in their care. The Kamrup District Health Department is currently reviewing the case. Talukdar promised, "Appropriate action would be taken if the investigation established negligence on the part of any doctor or healthcare worker."

Tensions remain high. Das also spoke of his own wife’s emergency on September 12. He claims he had to move her to a private clinic to save her and their newborn. He filed a police report on September 13, but nothing happened. Now, the organization wants MLA Raju Mech to intervene. They accuse Dr. Rumki Pal, Dr. Jayanta Das, and Dr. Roma Nath Bhagawati of sending patients to private facilities to make extra money. Talukdar asked the group to bring proof so he can investigate the private practice claims.
