Guwahati: Thousands of residents gathered in the Dhingbari Chapori Gaon Panchayat of Assam’s Nagaon district expecting government benefits. Officials organized the meeting under the Juria Development Block. They failed to provide water or shade.
People arrived early in the morning. The sun became brutal. Women, children, and the elderly suffered in the intense heat without protection. The lack of basic infrastructure sparked anger among the local crowd. Attendees questioned the integrity of the elected panchayat representatives tasked with managing the event.
One resident summarized the frustration: “We were asked to come here early in the morning. There is no arrangement for drinking water or shade in this scorching heat. Elderly people and women are falling ill.”
The situation remains tense in the village. Residents now demand immediate accountability for the mismanagement. Officials have not yet addressed the incident or offered a formal explanation for the absent facilities. Future gatherings remain under scrutiny as the public waits for a potential inquiry into the event.
