Guwahati: The Muga Machkhowa Multipurpose Cooperative Society in Dhemaji just landed its first bulk order for muga silk mekhela chadors. The deal is worth Rs 5.30 lakh. This hits a massive milestone for the group.
Over 100 women belong to the society. They get support from the Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner and the Zila Parishad. This move aims to build a solid local weaving business and push Dhemaji's traditional crafts into new markets.
Assam Education and Tribal Welfare Minister Ranoj Pegu cheered the news. He wants to see the group keep growing. "The cooperative's progress reflects the importance of supporting women-led initiatives while safeguarding Assam's rich handloom and silk traditions," Pegu stated.
The society keeps focus on protecting traditional weaving. Members are now finding new ways to earn a living through their craft.
