Guwahati: A nine-member team from the Assam Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell swarmed the official residence of Dhemaji District Development Commissioner Debeswar Bora on Monday, September 7. The senior Assam Civil Service officer faced intense questioning during the operation. Agents arrived from Guwahati in two vehicles to scour the property for evidence of wealth beyond his known income.
The search follows a complaint filed by a doctor regarding Bora's time as Joint Secretary in the Medical Education and Research Department. Investigators have placed properties in Guwahati and Lakhimpur under the scanner. Officials suspect these assets were bought using illicit funds and are currently registered to the officer's wife and various family members. The agency has yet to release a formal statement on the findings. Investigators expect the raid will provide key information for their ongoing probe.
A spokesperson for the operation noted, "The search at the DDC's official residence and the questioning of the senior ACS officer are expected to provide investigators with further information relevant to the allegations."
