Guwahati: Assam down town University handed out 1,885 degrees on Friday. The 13th convocation took place at the Panikhaiti campus in Guwahati. This graduating group included 1,427 undergraduates, 436 postgraduates, and 22 Ph.D. scholars. Ninety-five international students from eight countries also collected their diplomas.
Keshab Mahanta, Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, served as the chief guest. He presented the Governor of Assam’s Medal to top students. Febin M.F. from Larsen and Toubro Limited attended as a special guest. She spoke to the crowd about staying curious in an age of artificial intelligence.
Sarat Kumar Jain, CMD of SM Group, received an honorary Doctor of Literature for his business contributions. The school also handed out individual honors. Pragyan Kalita won the Gold Medal for best undergraduate. Juganta Kr. Kalita took the postgraduate prize. Subhankar Das earned the Best Placement Achiever title, while Nawang Dondup received the Alumni Award for Inspiring Achievement.
Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N. C. Talukdar reported a busy year. The school held 125 on-campus drives and a massive job fair, helping 961 students find work. Research efforts pulled in 16 crore rupees, while students filed 33 patents. Chancellor Dr. Narendra Nath Dutta reminded the crowd of the institution’s motto. He stated, “Enter to Learn, Go Out to Serve.”
The university started in 2010 with only 163 students. It has now conferred 11,218 total degrees over thirteen years. Administrators highlighted their current support for 59 innovation teams and four student start-ups. The event ended with graduates officially moving into their professional lives.
