Guwahati: Writer and journalist Bikash Sarkar spoke in Guwahati on Wednesday at the Harinarayan Dattabaruah Central Library. The event marked National Librarians Day at Assam down town University. Technology moves fast. Books stay the same.
Sarkar delivered the keynote address to a crowd of students and faculty. He focused on the role of printed works in human history. "Books are a driving force of human civilisation. With the advancement of technology, the world of books has also undergone significant changes. However, the essence of books and their appeal remain unchanged. Libraries have continued to play an important role in preserving this continuity. A library is a temple of books, and librarians are the custodians of that temple," he stated.
The university program featured multiple speakers. Vice Chancellor Dr. Narayan Chandra Talukdar honored Sarkar at the start of the ceremony. University Librarian Dr. Ruby Goswami detailed the life and work of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Indian library science. Chancellor Dr. Narendranath Dutta urged students to use libraries for their personal and academic growth.
Brishti Mousam Kashyap performed a Saraswati Vandana to open the event. Assistant Professor Pangkhi Kashyap managed the proceedings. Dr. Santosh Mohan Upadhyay closed the day with a vote of thanks. The gathering emphasized how libraries foster learning and reading habits.
