Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh officially turned on the 132 kV Miao-Namsai transmission line this week. The project spans nearly 41 kilometers. It connects Namsai, Diyun, and Miao to stabilize power for the Changlang district and its surrounding areas. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein announced the commissioning on July 29.
This line cuts the state's reliance on long radial networks. It bolsters grid connectivity and feeds the region’s rising energy demand. Mein said, "The nearly 41-km transmission line connecting Namsai, Diyun and Miao will significantly enhance power reliability in Changlang district and adjoining areas, strengthen grid connectivity, reduce dependence on long radial networks, and support the region’s growing energy needs."
The work falls under the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System. The Central government approved this initiative to overhaul infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. It targets a 2027 completion date. The goal is to slash transmission losses and boost socio-economic growth across these border states.
Work continues at a steady pace. Officials report that 91 of the 239 total project components are now finished. The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited is running the implementation alongside the state power department, local district administrations, and various executing agencies. Once fully integrated, the expanded network will link the state's electricity system directly into the national grid.
