Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh pulled in Rs 1,476 crore from the Centre this week. The funds arrived on Thursday, a full five days before the expected November 10 deadline. This payout is part of a larger Rs 1,09,019 crore transfer distributed to state governments nationwide. The Union Finance Ministry pushed the money out early to help states cover festive season bills and keep infrastructure projects moving.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein handles Finance, Planning and Investment for the state. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday for the timely cash flow. Mein expects the funds to help the state government manage ongoing projects and welfare delivery more effectively.
In a social media post, Mein stated, "The release of ₹1,476 crore to Arunachal Pradesh under tax devolution is more than a financial allocation; it provides the State with greater room to plan, prioritise and deliver on its development commitments."
Tax devolution functions as a constitutional mandate, funneling a slice of central tax revenue back to the states. Future budgets look stable. The 16th Finance Commission confirmed that states will claim 41 per cent of the divisible tax pool through 2031. Current projections estimate total tax devolution for 2026-27 at Rs 15.26 lakh crore, a jump from the Rs 13.93 lakh crore marked in the 2025-26 revised estimates.
