Itanagar: The Election Commission launched a Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls on November 5. This update spans four states and two Union Territories: Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Mizoram, Odisha, and Sikkim. The commission aims to sign up every eligible citizen, targeting young and first-time voters specifically.

Officials will publish the draft rolls on November 30. Citizens can then file claims or objections. The final rolls go live on January 21, 2027. The process allows advance applications from residents reaching voting age by April 1, July 1, and October 1, 2027, alongside those qualifying by January 1, 2027.

Strict rules now govern voter removals. Electoral Registration Officers must verify any deletion requests covering more than two percent of a polling station. They must also check cases where one person submits more than five objections. The panel requires field verification for all reports of repeated or multiple entries.

Aadhaar remains optional. The poll panel confirmed, "No application for enrolment can be rejected, and no existing entry can be deleted, solely because an applicant or elector fails to provide Aadhaar details."

Chief secretaries must provide enough staff and gear to finish the work. This rollout follows an October 15 move to update lists in 17 other regions. For the first time, the commission will provide voter lists to recognized political parties in a readable PDF format instead of image files.
