Arunachal BJP Backs Voter Roll Audit and Addresses Hydropower Concerns

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh BJP leaders are pushing hard for a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. They say the move protects indigenous voters. State party president Kaling Moyong held a press conference at the party headquarters in Itanagar to clarify their stance. He argued the audit is a legal requirement to remove ineligible entries and stop illegal migration. Moyong stood alongside spokesperson and Roing MLA Mutchu Mithi to frame the update as a way to ensure fair representation for local communities.

The party is currently taking this message on the road. They have organized events across the state to rally support, including a recent Loktantra Bachao rally in Ziro. Moyong insists the process follows strict legal standards to prevent outsiders from swaying local elections.

The party also faced questions about the controversial Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. Local groups fear the mega hydropower project will displace communities throughout the Siang belt. Moyong stated that officials are currently reviewing a Pre-Feasibility Report to determine if the plan makes sense. He told reporters, "The state government would not proceed with the project if the report found it unfeasible."

Moyong promised that public opinion remains the final word. The government will not force the dam on residents if they do not want it. The project continues to spark fierce debate regarding its environmental impact and the displacement of indigenous settlements.
