Guwahati: Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi blasted the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls on September 21. Speaking in Guwahati, the MLA accused the BJP government of using the exercise to rig elections and silence rivals. He claims the process deletes vast numbers of legitimate voters.
Gogoi pointed to West Bengal as proof of foul play. He alleged the party targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during the roll check. He labeled the entire revision a political weapon. "The SIR has actually become the BJP government's biggest weapon to topple governments and help the BJP win," he stated.
The legislator also raised alarms over widespread errors that span across all political lines. He highlighted verification failures in Delhi involving high-profile figures. He pointedly asked, "If the name of our country's former Home Minister, L.K. Advani, is missing, then whose name could be there? If a state's Chief Minister's name is missing, then whose would it be?" He also cited BJP leader Rekha Gupta during his address.
The Election Commission continues to defend its record. Officials claim the revision aims to fix roll accuracy. They insist the program gives all eligible voters a chance to submit claims or file objections.
