Itanagar: Electricity finally reached Vijoynagar. The remote frontier circle in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district is now connected to the power grid. Officials finished the 2x250 kW Sirit Micro Hydro Scheme on July 17 to serve the region. It sits along the Myanmar border, trapped by the dense forests of Namdapha National Park.
The project cost over Rs 14 crore. It brings power to more than 1,500 residents living across eight villages: Dara Gaon, Dawodi, Phaparbari, Gahrigaon, Hazolo, Ramnagar, Buddhamandir, and the Vijoynagar headquarters. Miao-Vijoynagar MLA Kamlung Mossang stated, "Access to electricity will significantly improve education, healthcare, communication, livelihoods and the overall quality of life for the people here, while opening new doors for growth and economic progress."
This work replaces decades of isolation. Engineers from the state Hydro Power Development Department and the Power Department teamed up to finish the build. They navigated rugged terrain and tough logistics to deliver the infrastructure. Officials expect the new grid connection to spark growth in eco-tourism, organic farming, and horticulture. Mossang thanked Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein for prioritizing these remote border areas.
