Guwahati: Air India Express is cutting cargo fees to speed up flood relief deliveries into Assam. The airline will transport essential aid for registered NGOs and recognized relief agencies to Guwahati at no cost. This move aims to bolster humanitarian work as local districts recover from severe flooding.
Relief shipments must include specific goods to qualify for the waiver. Eligible items cover food, dry rations, drinking water, medicines, hygiene and sanitation kits, blankets, clothing, and tarpaulins. All cargo remains subject to standard airline verification, regulatory rules, and carriage policies.
Flights are ready. The airline runs six daily flights from Delhi, three from Bengaluru, and two from Kolkata to Guwahati. Capacity is limited. The airline says, "The initiative is intended to support the ongoing humanitarian response and ensure faster delivery of essential supplies to flood-affected regions of Assam."
Groups need to coordinate with the carrier early. Organizations should email relief@airindiaexpress.com or call +91 7982118680 to manage documentation, packaging, and flight allocation. The cargo team handles all scheduling based on operational feasibility.
The flood threat is easing. Data from the Assam state disaster management authority shows affected people dropped to 4.45 lakh from 5.24 lakh. No new deaths occurred in the last 24 hours. The state death toll remains at 68 for this year.
