AIMS Inspection Reveals Severe Staffing and Infrastructure Crisis in Imphal Schools

Imphal: Government schools across Zones I and II of the Zonal Education Office in Imphal West are failing. The Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup finished its fourth inspection phase. The team visited four sites to assess the ongoing decay. The situation is dire.

Sairem Upper Primary School operates with only two staff members: an in-charge Headmaster and one contract teacher. Two other teachers transferred there last year but never showed up. They obtained stay orders to avoid the job. This lack of staff keeps student numbers low.

Maklang High School is empty. There are zero students enrolled in Classes VIII through X. The remaining classes average just five kids apiece. "The school authorities also cited the absence of proper fencing, leading to repeated damage and loss of school property," the report states.

Infrastructure issues plague the other sites. Lamdong Heinoukhong Upper Primary School functions mostly at the pre-primary level. There is not enough room for everyone. Students cram into limited spaces to study together. Mongsangei Upper Primary School shares this same cramped fate. Classes overlap because the buildings lack enough rooms for students.
