Manipur Activists Launch Month-Long Campaign to Reform Education

Imphal: A month-long campaign to scrub the education sector of politics and corruption kicked off today at Tamphasana Girls Higher Secondary School in Imphal. The Co-ordinating Committee on Disturbance-Free Educational Zone Demand 2026 organized the push under the banner of the 19th Disturbance-Free Educational Zone Demand 2026. The goal is simple. Save education to save Manipur.

Key figures led the inaugural event, including Committee Chairman Moirangthem Lokendra and Laishram Joy Khuman of the All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association. Laishram Jugindro of COTA, DESAM President Oinam Romesh Meetei, and school principal Dr. Vinita Devi Elangbam also attended. The organizers promoted the event with the theme, "Save Education, Save Manipur, Save the Future."

The group held a slogan protest immediately following the meeting. Protesters demanded that the state end favoritism and nepotism within the department. They want the government to fire staff involved in malpractice. The committee also seeks to split the Directorates of School Education and University and Higher Education into separate entities.

Beyond structural changes, the campaign pushes for merit-based hiring of qualified teachers. They also demand better school funding and resource allocation. The state must shield classrooms from interference to protect the future of every student in Manipur.
