Tripura Names Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty State Election Commissioner

Agartala: The Tripura government appointed retired IAS officer Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty as the new State Election Commissioner. He fills the vacancy left by Manoj Kumar. Manoj Kumar stepped down after serving since his appointment on November 15, 2025.

The change follows the rules. The state government recommended Chakravarty under Section 176(1) of the Tripura Panchayat Act, 1993, and Rule 3 of the Tripura Panchayat (Constitution of State Panchayat Election Commission) Rules, 1993. These rules include updates from 2006 and 2013. The Governor of Tripura signed off on the selection.

The move is official. It takes effect immediately to keep the commission running without delay. The State Election Commission oversees all local body and panchayat elections across the state.

Pay and benefits for the position follow Rule 4 of the 1993 commission rules. Regarding the transition, official documents state, "The appointment has come into immediate effect, ensuring continuity in the functioning of the State Election Commission."
