Agartala: The State Election Commission set the stage for local body polls. It finalized 783 polling stations for the Agartala Municipal Corporation and 21 other urban local bodies. Officials expect the voting to happen after the puja season.
The Agartala Municipal Corporation accounts for the bulk of the infrastructure with 439 polling stations. The remaining stations are spread across the state: Jirania Nagar Panchayat with 11, Ranirbazar Municipal Council with 13, Mohanpur Municipal Council with 15, Kailashahar Municipal Council with 20, and Kumarghat Municipal Council with 15. Dharmanagar Municipal Council hosts 45, Panisagar Nagar Panchayat has 13, Ambassa Municipal Council claims 15, Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat holds 11, and Khowai Municipal Council has 15.
Other stations include Teliamura Municipal Council with 24, Amarpur Nagar Panchayat with 13, Udaipur Municipal Council with 34, Melaghar Municipal Council with 17, Sonamura Nagar Panchayat with 13, Bishalgarh Municipal Council with 18, Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat with 11, Belonia Municipal Council with 17, Santirbazar Municipal Council with 15, and Sabroom Nagar Panchayat with 9.
Preparation moves to the voter lists. The commission will release draft electoral rolls on October 1. Officials stated: "The electoral roll for the municipal areas will initially be prepared on the basis of the electoral roll currently in force for the State Assembly elections."
Voters have until October 8 to file claims or objections. The commission will wrap up the disposal process by October 12. They plan to publish the final electoral roll on October 15, 2026.
