Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha visited the Rabindra Auditorium at MBB College in Agartala on Friday. He came to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. The date marks a grim chapter in Indian history. August 14 stands in stark contrast to the joy of Independence Day.
Saha spoke to students about the massive loss of life and the deep pain caused by the 1947 division of the country. He pushed the younger generation to study these events closely. The goal is to keep the memory of past suffering and sacrifice alive for those who come next.
The Chief Minister linked these sacrifices to the national flag. "Every colour of the Tricolour carries the story of the sacrifice, courage and patriotism of countless freedom fighters who devoted their lives to the nation," Saha said. He noted that the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign helps honor those fighters while building spirit among citizens. He asked Gen-Z students to commit themselves to nation building.

Separate remembrance efforts unfolded in Mohanpur, where Power and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath addressed a crowd at Swami Vivekananda College. Nath labeled the Partition as a brutal shift that shattered the lives of millions, noting that the event stripped families of their homes and livelihoods while tearing apart deep-rooted social and cultural bonds.
Nath pushed for a broader takeaway from the day, telling the assembly that the public should use the history of the 1947 division to guard against the dangers of hatred and hostility. The Mohanpur event included performances by students and drew attendance from local officials including Zila Parishad member Joyalal Das and Principal Monidip Roy.
