Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed that officials from Tripura and Mizoram are working to settle their long-running border feud. The move follows direct talks between Saha and Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma. Both leaders agreed that official-level meetings must precede any high-level summit. The first round of discussions occurred in Agartala on September 10.
Mizoram officials arrived in Tripura on September 9 to begin the process. Home Secretaries from both states met to establish a clear resolution path. Saha remains optimistic about the outcome. "I believe the solution would happen soon," he stated. He is still waiting for a comprehensive report on the specific outcomes of the recent talks.
Both sides agreed to maintain the status quo in the Phuldungsai Village Council area. Routine development projects will proceed as normal. Any special projects require notification to the other state. Neither government will attempt unilateral demarcation. The Survey of India will lead all future field work.
A Joint Technical Team is now forming to handle the heavy lifting. This team includes the Directors of Land Records and Settlement from both states and the Director of the Survey of India in Guwahati. The group will meet every fortnight at the Survey of India office in Silchar. Their primary mission is vetting land records before any new surveys begin.
State authorities named Additional Home Secretaries and DLRS Directors as the lead nodal officers. These individuals will keep lines of communication open. Another Home Secretary-level meeting is already on the books for Aizawl. That session is set for two months from now.
