Police detain five workers following death in Mamit district

Aizawl: Police detained five construction workers on Friday, September 11, following the death of a 42-year-old colleague in the Mamit district of Mizoram. The victim, a citizen of Nepal, lived at a work camp near Lungphun village. His body turned up in a nearby gorge on Wednesday night.

The suspects include fellow Nepal nationals employed by a road construction firm. The company handles repairs for local walls, culverts, and roads. Officials took the men into custody to record their statements. Investigators are now trying to piece together the events of Wednesday night.

Local residents claim the men argued before the incident. According to these accounts, someone struck the victim on the leg before the group tossed him into the gorge. A police officer noted, "Police said the matter was under investigation and it had not yet been established whether the death was a case of homicide."

An autopsy at Kanghmun will determine the cause of death. After the procedure finishes, authorities plan to release the body to a Gorkha association based in Aizawl. Officers continue to search for evidence as the investigation moves forward.
