Guwahati: Thieves hit the Maa Manasha jewellery store in Pathsala early Monday morning. They walked away with 2 crore rupees in gold and 16 lakh rupees in cash. The criminals cut the power to CCTV cameras before raiding the shop.

This is a major hit for the town. Residents are fed up. Several local groups including the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, the All Bajali District Students Union, the Chambers of Commerce, the Pathsala Bazar Committee, and The Hindu Parishad, Assam want action. They are demanding tougher night patrols and better police surveillance in commercial areas.

The groups also pushed the Pathsala Municipal Board to mount CCTV cameras at key town spots. They noted, "improved surveillance could help prevent thefts and assist police in identifying those involved." Business owners fear the recent wave of burglaries will only continue without a faster response from local authorities.
