Guwahati: Hailakandi Police cracked the burglary at the home of businessman Swapan Das. Das owns the Baurghat Petrol Pump in the Natunpara area. Officers arrested five men following a string of raids throughout the district. They recovered 21 grams of gold and a cache of silver.

The suspects include Riju Ahmed Mazumder from Rangauti village and Akbar Hussain Laskar of Bahadurpur. Jabedul Haque, an e-rickshaw driver from Dhumkar, and local man Prasenjit Roy also face charges. Naharul Islam Barbhuiya, who runs Taj Mahal Jewellers at Chirajpatty, completes the list. Police claim the men played specific roles in the theft, the getaway, and the fencing of stolen goods. Investigators said the probe has yielded several leads.

The suspects appeared in a Hailakandi court on Monday. "The investigation is continuing to recover the remaining stolen cash and jewellery and to identify any other individuals linked to the burglary racket," police stated. Officers are still hunting for missing cash and more gold ornaments. Search teams continue to work across the district.
