Shillong: The Supreme Court Bar Association wants a fair probe into the July 11 assault on advocate Pankaj Sharma. A neighbor allegedly attacked the senior lawyer at his home, leaving him with serious injuries. The Bar body passed a resolution on July 13 to condemn the incident. They claim the initial police report ignores the severity of the wounds and the potential attempt on his life.
The Executive Committee noted their stance in the resolution: "An attack on an advocate is not merely an attack on an individual; it is an attack on the institution of justice itself." Members worry that the lack of police action leaves the lawyer and his family vulnerable to ongoing threats. They argue that if a Supreme Court advocate faces such violence without legal recourse, ordinary citizens have no hope for protection.
The association demanded that the Delhi Police Commissioner review the case. They want every person involved in the assault and intimidation held accountable. The SCBA also insists on immediate police protection for the Sharma family. They intend to back the lawyer as he seeks justice.
