Bar Associations Denounce Attacks on CJI Surya Kant

Shillong: The Supreme Court Bar Association and the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association slammed social media calls for the resignation of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Both organizations issued separate resolutions on Monday to defend the top judge. They warned that these public attacks damage the dignity of the judiciary and interfere with the administration of justice.

SCBA Honorary Secretary Pragya Baghel signed the body's statement. She noted that people should seek legal remedies through proper channels rather than personal attacks. "Statements of this nature belittle the institution of the judiciary and amount to an attempt to interfere with the administration of justice," the resolution declared. Meanwhile, the SCAORA, led by Honorary Secretary Yugandhara Pawar Jha, reminded the public that the court is a constitutional institution tasked with protecting rights. They demanded that the judicial process remain free from pressure.

This friction follows a deleted post on X by the Kerala unit of the Congress party. The message told the Chief Justice to resign if he could not handle the domain of law and order. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra also targeted the CJI online with a cryptic post stating, "Surya clearly Can’t. So we will."

BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi attacked the Congress response. He claimed the party hit a historic low by trying to intimidate the Supreme Court. Trivedi alleged that Congress activists brought a mob to the court doors. He also stated that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi broke his security perimeter to access the premises from a secondary entrance.
