Shillong: Jaintia Students’ Union members cornered three suspected Bangladeshi nationals Sunday at Lad Demithring. The group stopped the suspects inside a white Suzuki tourist vehicle, tagged ML 04 E 3485, owned by Treibor Kyndait. The JSU verified their identity documents on the spot. The individuals admitted they were from Bangladesh.
The JSU hauled the trio to the Jowai Police Station. They filed a formal FIR immediately. JSU officials claim local brokers, known as dalals, approached them during the police handover. The group allegedly offered the students lakhs of rupees to drop the case. The JSU refused the cash. Bocheru Mi Pohsnem, JSU education secretary and Jowai Circle adviser, stood firm. He stated, "The Union has called for an immediate and comprehensive police investigation into the matter, alleging the involvement of a wider cross-border network facilitating illegal immigration."
Authorities now hold the suspects. The JSU is pushing for a full inquiry into the smuggling ring. They promised to track this case until every person responsible faces the law.
