Kohima: The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) threw its weight behind the Ao Senden on Monday regarding the realignment of National Highway 702D. They want the Nagaland government to adopt Option-IV if the No Objection Certificate for Option-III, known as the British Road or Chungliyimsen route, fails to materialize. The stakes are high. The organization insists that long-term public interest and safety must trump short-term gains.
President Lanulemba Longchar and General Secretary Aomayang Longkumer issued a joint statement. They argued that the 85-km highway linking Mokokchung to Mariani serves as a vital strategic artery for the district and its neighbors. The union praised the Ao Senden for keeping the pressure on the authorities. They are demanding total transparency and a move away from the project's long-pending status.
Economic efficiency and future connectivity remain the top priorities for the student body. They also highlighted the need for rural access. “At the same time, proper feeder roads connecting villages and rural communities to the National Highway must be given equal importance to ensure that the benefits of the project reach the people at the grassroots level,” the statement read. The group warned the government that any further delays will punish the region and stall development.
