Imphal: The Imphal Regional Office of the Press Information Bureau hosted a media workshop on the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission at SM Hall in Tamenglong. Journalists from Tamenglong and Noney districts joined civil society leaders and the public for the session. Dr. Engam Pame, Additional Director General of PIB Imphal, and Assistant Professor Namsurei Thomas Kamei presided over the event.
Ramkung Pamei, editor of The Cham, opened the floor with a keynote address. Dr. Lungthuiyang Riamei, principal of United Builders School, handled closing remarks while The Gaanphiu Mail editor Ringbam Kamei delivered the vote of thanks. The gathering explored implementation hurdles and the necessity of keeping the public informed about government programs as they celebrate 12 years of mission governance.
Dr. Pame highlighted the press as a necessary check on power. He told attendees, "A vibrant, responsible press acts as a storyteller and watchdog capable of prompting social change." He warned that failing to hold the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary to account degrades governance.
Namsurei Thomas Kamei led a deep dive into the mission’s progress during the workshop. This event serves as part of a larger PIB effort to sharpen reporting standards and boost engagement between officials and local media. Organizers intend for these sessions to improve the accuracy of information reaching grassroots communities.
