Imphal: Meira Paibi members gathered at the Thongkhong Keithel shed in Sawombung today. They demanded an end to local violence. Unidentified gunmen fired at the residential gate of Sagolsem Shyam at 7 pm on September 19. Shyam works as a teacher at Biramangol College. The attack happened under the jurisdiction of Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district.
Protesters waved signs calling for peace and open dialogue. Wahengbam Khambiton, Secretary of the Sawombung Thongkhong Meira Paibi, addressed the crowd. She spoke about the lingering terror. "Such incidents create fear among peace-loving residents and vulnerable sections of society," Khambiton said. She urged those responsible to stop the intimidation. The community wants grievances settled through talk, not bullets.
The shooting changed the neighborhood. Fear keeps people inside. Residents are now scared to step out of their homes after dark. The group pushed for a quick end to these threats.
