Power Surge Destroys Appliances in Dimapur Neighborhood

Kohima: A snapped overhead Low Tension line triggered a massive power surge in Dimapur on the evening of October 19. The line fell onto a domestic power connection at Industrial Village Razhuphe, sending a spike of high voltage into neighborhood homes. Residents reported dozens of damaged appliances. Refrigerators and light fittings blew out instantly.

Roughly 50 households felt the jolt. The surge charred energy meters and even burned the wooden boards holding them. One home nearly went up in flames after electrical fittings ignited. Alert neighbors doused the fire before it spread. A local resident said, "The problem started when an overhead Low Tension (LT) line snapped and fell onto a domestic power line."

Personnel from the power department arrived on the scene to restring the line. They are currently going door to door to assess the damage to meters. No injuries occurred during the incident.
