Agartala: Tripura Police seized 40 lakh rupees in cash from a private Bolero on Saturday night. Officers pulled over the vehicle, registration TR 01 CD 0692, at a checkpoint in Durga Chowmuhani. The stop happened at 8 pm as the car headed from Dharmanagar toward Agartala.
Traffic In-Charge Pankaj Debnath and Officer-in-Charge Suman Acharya led the operation. Police detained five men inside the vehicle: Mukhtar Hossain, Jasim Mia, Kabir Mia, Liton Mia, and Rabindra Das. These individuals range in age from 18 to 33.
The men claimed the money came from a betel-nut business. Officers remained skeptical. Police noted, "their explanations regarding the source and transportation of such a large amount of cash reportedly raised further questions."
Authorities used a currency-counting machine to tally the haul in front of SDPO Saurav Das, Sub-Divisional DCM Aditi Das, and officer Kapil Pal. Investigators are now tracking the origin of the funds to see if a larger criminal network exists. Police are currently working to bring the suspects and the money before a court.
