Guwahati: Police arrested four suspected contract killers from Uttar Pradesh in the Kokrajhar district of Assam on July 16. Officers caught the group in the Ballamguri area of Gossaigaon around 9 pm.
The suspects are Dharmveer Gautam, Vikas Chaudhary, Suraj Gautam, and Nizamis Ali. All four men hail from the Basti district in Uttar Pradesh. Police seized a country-made firearm and live ammunition from the group during the operation.
Authorities acted on intelligence tips received 15 days ago. These reports warned that outsiders planned to enter Assam to spark violence. Police are now digging into the suspects' local connections. They want to see if an organized network ordered the hits. "The suspects are currently being interrogated to ascertain the motive behind their visit, possible local links and whether they were acting on behalf of any organised criminal network," officials stated. Investigators continue to push for answers.
