Guwahati: Badarpur Police arrested 60-year-old Madan Pal on Saturday, August 15. The arrest follows an alleged attempted rape of a Class 10 student in the Sribhumi district of Assam. The girl was walking home from Badarpur Cooperative Higher Secondary School after attending Independence Day festivities.

Pal intercepted the student near the Badarpur railway town area. He grabbed her, covered her mouth, and dragged her into his house. He locked her in a room to carry out the assault. The victim fought back hard. She bit the man on his hand and escaped by jumping through a window.

The family filed a formal complaint naming Pal as the attacker. According to the report, the family noted that "several women had previously complained against Pal." Police took the suspect into custody immediately following the report. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident.
