Kohima: The Pfutsero Town Business Association hit the Department of Power with a demand for lower electricity rates. High commercial tariffs are crushing local shop owners. They say the current costs create an unfair financial strain while operating expenses continue to climb. The association wants the government to roll out subsidies or relief to protect small traders and entrepreneurs from these price spikes.
Reliable electricity remains a ghost in Pfutsero. Business operations suffer daily because of a failing 33 KV supply line running through Meluri. These frequent blackouts force up costs and kill service efficiency for every shop in town. "The community has endured these difficulties for decades, and the matter now requires urgent and sustained government attention," the association stated in a recent release.
Relief hinges on the 132 KV sub-station at Rikizu. Construction must speed up. The group expects officials to finish and activate the site by November 2026. Bringing this infrastructure online is the only way to stabilize the grid for local commerce. The association expects the government to prioritize both affordable billing and consistent power to ensure the long-term survival of the local economy.
