Kohima: Ikato Chishi Swu, the new Chairman of the NSCN/GPRN Eastern Flank, wants national unity. He spoke Friday at Mt Horeb Camp during the 80th Naga Independence Day celebration. The leader blasted the Hebron-based NSCN (IM) for handing over competencies to the Government of India. He claims these acts surrender sovereign rights within the Indian Constitution.
This move follows a July 21 meeting of Civil National Workers and Naga Army Officers. They voted to create a Provisional Government until a full administration takes shape. Swu accused the Hebron leadership of ignoring political duties. He says they focus too much on ceremonies. He also argued they undermined the 2015 Framework Agreement. Swu specifically referenced the 2019 Indian government ultimatum that threatened to halt talks if the group kept demanding a separate flag and constitution.
Swu urged the global Naga diaspora and those living across the 120,000 square kilometer homeland to form a unified government. He wants the movement to hold firm until sovereignty returns. The Chairman warned that fragmentation poses a serious danger to their goals. "Principles are meaningful only when they are upheld with conviction, responsibility and steadfast action," he stated. He added that any further betrayal of the cause requires a united, armed, and political response.
The Chairman cited the 1947 independence declaration and the 1951 plebiscite as the true roots of political authority. He saluted the people of Eastern Nagalim for their grit. Swu called for transparency and accountability, rejecting tribalism and personal greed. He believes each generation must protect the freedom entrusted to it.
