Nagaland MP Pushes for Veterinary College Upgrades in Jalukie

Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir went to bat for the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry on Tuesday. He demanded federal support for the Jalukie facility. This school sits in Peren and operates under the Central Agricultural University in Imphal.

Jamir hit the floor of Parliament to pressure the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. He wants immediate cash for key infrastructure projects. The campus needs help. Specifically, the MP called for a new veterinary clinical complex and better veterinary laboratory diagnostic facilities to catch animal diseases faster.

The plan also includes mobile animal health units and veterinary telemedicine. These tools will reach rural areas. Jamir argued that better schools mean better livestock and stable food supplies. He believes this investment will drive local jobs. The MP noted the college draws students from all over the country and argued that "investment in veterinary education is important for improving livestock productivity, ensuring food security and creating employment opportunities in the rural economy."

Boosting these facilities will turn the Jalukie site into a top-tier institution. The minister must now decide if the government will open its wallet.
