Kohima: The All Nagaland School Teachers Association formed a Joint Coordination Committee on September 18. They met at the CANNSEA office in Kohima to protect their jobs. The new group plans to push the Chief Minister and other elected officials for an exemption from the NTET examination for all teachers hired before the Right to Education Act. Teachers appointed prior to the act face a high-stakes battle for certification.
Kezhalezo Solo from Kohima serves as the convenor for the committee. Chingwang Konyak of Mon district joins him as co-convenor while Sherin Keppen of Chümoukedima takes the role of treasurer. The committee also includes two representatives from every district. Membership is broad. The meeting brought together between 600 and 700 educators from 15 different districts.
Only teachers from Noklak and Longleng were absent. The group requires each affected teacher to pay 1,000 rupees to fund their efforts. Solo chaired the emergency meeting as the association vice president. The committee will "pursue the case with elected representatives and the Chief Minister of Nagaland" to ensure these veterans maintain their positions without further testing.
