Kohima: Hundreds of teachers gathered in Kohima this Friday. They met at the CANNSEA office to fight for their jobs. These educators were appointed before the Right to Education Act took effect. Now, they want an exemption from the Nagaland Teacher Eligibility Test, known as the NTET.
The All Nagaland School Teachers' Association called the meeting. Teachers from 15 districts showed up to talk strategy. Only Noklak and Longleng districts stayed away. Between 600 and 700 teachers packed the room. They formed a Joint Coordination Committee to take their demands to the Chief Minister and other elected leaders.
The committee has a clear leadership roster. Kezhalezo Solo from Kohima will serve as the convenor. Chingwang Konyak of Mon is the co-convenor. Sherin Keppen from Chümoukedima takes the role of treasurer. Two members from every represented district will round out the group.
Cash is required to fund the mission. Every affected teacher must chip in 1,000 rupees. ANSTA President Kasheto Sumi opened the session. The teachers spent the business segment sharing their views and options. ANSTA General Secretary Pekinto Y Jimo fielded questions during the event. He closed the meeting by stating, "The house unanimously resolved to form JCC of Pre-RTE teachers."
