Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir pressed the federal government Tuesday to overhaul the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Jalukie. The college sits in Peren district and functions as a constituent unit of the Central Agricultural University in Imphal.
Jamir raised the issue during Zero Hour in Parliament. He appealed directly to the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. He wants the government to sign off on several key projects to modernize the institution.
The MP proposed a new veterinary clinical complex. He also demanded an immediate upgrade to existing veterinary laboratory diagnostic facilities. These changes aim to speed up animal disease diagnosis across the region.
The proposal includes launching veterinary telemedicine and mobile animal health services. These additions would expand service delivery into remote rural areas. Jamir argued these investments are vital for the local economy. "Investment in veterinary education is important for improving livestock productivity, ensuring food security and creating employment opportunities in the rural economy," Jamir said.
The college already pulls in students from across the country. Jamir believes these upgrades will transform the school into a premier national institution. He urged the ministry to prioritize the funding request to boost livestock development and regional academic standards.
