Kohima: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir demanded federal support for the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Jalukie, Peren. He brought the issue to the floor during Tuesday's Zero Hour in Parliament. He wants the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to open the purse strings.
The institution is a constituent college of the Central Agricultural University in Imphal. It needs serious work. Jamir proposed a new veterinary clinical complex to anchor the facility. He also pushed for upgraded Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostic facilities to sharpen animal disease diagnosis.
Service delivery remains a bottleneck. To fix this, he urged the introduction of veterinary telemedicine and mobile animal health services. The MP argued these additions are essential, stating, "Investment in veterinary education is vital for improving livestock productivity, strengthening food security and generating employment opportunities in the rural economy."
Students travel from across the country to attend the Jalukie campus. Better facilities will attract more talent. Jamir claims these upgrades will elevate the institution into one of India’s top veterinary schools. He expects the ministry to prioritize these projects immediately.
