Kohima: Nagaland Legislative Assembly members arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, for the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference. The delegation arrived on September 13 and will remain until September 19, 2026. They joined officials from nearly 180 legislatures across the Commonwealth to tackle the theme: "Strengthening International Law and Parliamentary Democracy in a Changing World Order: Commonwealth Leadership."
Speaker Sharingain Longkumer traveled with his spouse. Deputy Speaker S. Toiho Yeptho also attended with his spouse. Secretary Khruohituonuo Rio rounded out the delegation. The Parliament of South Africa and the CPA South Africa Branch hosted the event.
The group divided their time between high-level workshops. Longkumer contributed to Workshop C, which focused on parliamentary leadership regarding climate adaptation and resilience. Yeptho participated in Workshop E, which examined the role of parliaments in protecting human rights and promoting peace.
Rio focused on internal operations. The secretary attended the 60th Meeting of the Society of Clerks at the Table. This forum gave parliamentary officials a chance to swap knowledge and build stronger institutional capacity.
