Kohima: Employees under the Mission Shakti Hub for Empowerment of Women in Nagaland are demanding their overdue pay. They have not received a paycheck since September 2025. This nine month backlog has forced staff into severe financial trouble. Many workers cannot afford food, transport, or basic daily needs. Some staff members struggle to even report for their shifts.
A July 21 representation addressed to the Director of the Department of Social Welfare and the Advisor for Social Welfare details the crisis. The staff learned through a Right to Information application by the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry that the state is waiting on Central government funds. However, the employees expressed doubt regarding this delay. They pointed out that Mission Shakti workers in other states are getting paid on time.
The staff remain firm in their demands. "We are not seeking charity. We are only asking for the wages we have rightfully earned through our service to the scheme," the employees stated in their letter. The group in Kohima insists that the state must support its own workforce if it truly wants to reach the mission's objective of empowering women. They are calling for immediate intervention to clear the debt.
