Kohima: The Shekinah Christian Foundation teamed up with the Department of Social Welfare to host a Special Programme for Senior Citizens. The event took place at Town Hall in Tuensang on September 25. It drew a crowd of community leaders, government officials, and local elders.
Organizers aimed to boost awareness regarding elderly welfare. They pushed for better care and inclusion within the community. The day featured several live performances, including a drama, a poem recital, and special songs. Experts also led an awareness session detailing specific government schemes for the elderly. Another session focused on healthy lifestyle habits before an open forum allowed participants to speak their minds.
Dr. Zujanbeni N. Ngullie, the EAC of Tuensang, joined Impongsotet Chang, president of the Senior Citizens’ Forum Tuensang, to address the attendees. Both speakers highlighted the necessity of supporting and valuing the aging population. T. Longlang Lakpan, the District Welfare Officer for Tuensang, provided a breakdown of available aid programs. Reflecting on the mission of the event, the organizers stated the programme was held to "honour senior citizens and promote dignity, care, inclusion and greater awareness of their welfare and well-being."
