Kohima: Lengrijan marked a century of history on Friday. Residents gathered at Lengrijan Ground to celebrate the village's establishment in 1926. The event centered on the theme, Celebrating Our Past, Exploring Our Possibilities.
Advisor Moatoshi Longkumer served as the special guest. He described the event as a “once-in-a-lifetime milestone” during his address. Longkumer honored the pioneers who built the village through immense sacrifice. He told the crowd that the next hundred years depend on the youth. He envisions a future with better roads, power, and water, but warned that progress requires setting aside personal interests.
Temjenmenba, an advisor for Transport and Technical Education, released a commemorative souvenir. He credited the village's survival to hard work and peaceful coexistence. He reminded the audience that Nagas must keep their traditional values even as technology advances. He also warned the youth to stop supporting wrongdoers to protect the civility of the local society.
Principal Moa Walling delivered the theme address. He urged the community to stop living in the past and start planning for the next 25 years. Walling called for reconciliation and a shift in mindset to prevent social division. He ended his speech with a famous sentiment: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
Longkumer opened the day by revealing the centenary monolith. Rev. Kekriesito Savino dedicated the stone with a prayer. Dr. Imnuksungla Pongen chaired the event, while T. Anung Pongen provided the welcome address. Additional speakers included DMC councillor Yimkumba Kichu and Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Dr. Tinojongshi Chang. The event featured music from the DABA Sumedem Choir and Moajungla Jamir.
