Kohima: The Rongmei Pui Phwam Kohima marked its 25th anniversary on October 24 at the NRDS Hall in Nagabazar, Kohima. Members gathered to honor two decades and a half of advocacy and welfare work for Rongmei women. Katasinliu Remmei, an associate professor at Kohima Science College, attended as the chief guest. Joysi Rongmei, president of the Rongmei Mothers’ Organisation Nagaland, joined as the special guest.
Katasinliu Remmei pushed the group to maintain strong support networks. She told the crowd that mutual care builds a flourishing society. She also demanded better focus on education and skill building for the next generation. Parents need to push their kids to dream bigger than simple entry-level roles.
Joysi Rongmei reflected on the organization's start in 2001. She praised the members for their sustained unity. "No organisation or union could progress without a shared commitment and spirit of togetherness," she said. The group formed on July 18, 2001, to address the needs of those suffering from ceasefire-related violence after the Motor Peace Rally in Senapati, Manipur. Before this, Rongmei women lacked a unified voice.
The celebration included traditional songs and cultural dances. Advisor Losa Phimu Gangmei outlined the group's history, while president Sarah Kamei provided the welcome address. Luchalu Kamei led the opening prayer. Secretary Lily Longmei offered the vote of thanks, and Gaisinmei Jennifer Ruangmei gave the final benediction. Chunjanglu Gracy chaired the event.
